High School Hockey Programs

Area schools St. Paul's, Fountainbleau, Jesuit, Brother Martin and others have fielded high school teams for some years now. For some schools it is a club activity and at others a letter sport. Regardless of the category its a good way for schools to increase student participation. If you want to start a hockey program at your school call Lou Luzynski at 985-871-8112 for some pointers on how to get it going.

High School Hockey League Rules

The High School Hockey League will play under the 2007-09 USA Inline Hockey Rules. The complete rule book is available from USA Hockey or on their website at:

http://www.usahockey.com//Template_UsahockeyInline.aspx?NAV=RE_03&ID=788

In addition to, or as a substitute for the standard USA Hockey Inline Hockey Rules, the following additional rules will be enforced:

- The length of the games will be three 10 minute running time periods. There will be a 1:30 break between periods and a 3 minute warm-up before the game. A single 1 minute time out is allowed for each team.

- Stop time will be used in all games that are tied or within 2 goals within the last 2 minutes.

- All regular season games that end in a tie will remain a tie. In playoffs, a 3 minute sudden death, 3-on-3, overtime period will take place. At the end of the overtime period, if the game is still tied, a 3 Man-Shoot Out will take place until a winner is declared.

- No mercy rule will be used. All games will be played to their normal conclusion.

- Any forfeits will be counted as an 8-0 loss.

- Tie-breakers for determining seeding for playoffs:
1. Total Points
2. Head to Head (2 team tie only)
3. Fewest Goals Against
4. Most Goals For
5. Fewest Penalty Minutes
6. Coin Flip

- Any Head Coach whose team receives ten penalties in the same game will be suspended for the balance of the game and the next scheduled game.

- Fighting Suspensions:

* Fighting will not be tolerated. A Major penalty and automatic Game Misconduct shall be imposed on any player who engages in a fight. A Minor penalty shall be imposed on any player who, having been struck, shall retaliate with a blow or attempted blow. At the discretion of the referee a major or double minor may be imposed if that player continues the altercation. The referee is provided very wide latitude in the penalties he/she may impose to differentiate between the obvious degrees of responsibility for starting or persisting in the altercation.

* The second Fighting Penalty in the season for the same player will result in an immediate ejection from the game and a three game suspension.

* The third Fighting penalty in the season for the same player will result in an immediate ejection from the game and a suspension for the remainder of the season.
